Disney Princess is a toy line and also one of the franchises of Walt Disney Company. It was created in 2000 after the idea was conceived in 1999 by Andy Mooney, a former executive at Nike Inc. who was hired to head the Walt Disney Company's Consumer Products.
Andy Mooney was inspired to create the Disney Princess Franchise when he saw how little girls were dressed like princesses at a Disney Ice Show. He then created the Disney Princess franchise, which features a line-up of female fictional protagonist characters that have been featured in the Disney media animated films and series.
Although the company has a lot of series and films in its archives, only 12 of them were selected to be part of the Disney Princess Franchise, and they include: Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, and Moana.
